Forming an opportunity belief

1.     My beginning point: There is opportunity that I believe exists. This opportunity is a pill that someone can take, and this pill gives you all the benefits of sleeping without the actual act of sleeping. This way people can have all 24 hours of the day to do anything and don’t need to waste nearly one- third of their life sleeping.

2.     My belief: Humans on average sleep for one-third of their lives. We are so busy and there are so many opportunities do not have time to do. We are waiting our time on this planet by sleeping. By creating a pill to abolish the need to sleep, humans would be much more productive in all aspects of life. This would be especially useful for college students and people in the workforce as we are always extremely busy.

3.     Prototypical customer: A prototypical costumer would be anyone who feels overwhelmed with the little amount of time in the day and the amount they need to get done. In addition, this would be useful for anyone who has trouble sleeping as they would not need to sleep anymore.

4.     What is the exact nature of the need? My first interviewee says she is extremely overwhelmed with the amount of work she has for school and doesn’t have time for any other activities. Therefore, she would love an additional 8 hours of day to get more involved.
When do they become aware of the need? During weeks of extreme amounts of work, such as exam week.
How long have they had the need? 6 months
When did they first become aware of their need? Why?  Since the beginning of college. This is due to an increased workload and much more extracurricular activity opportunities.
How are they currently addressing their need? There is no solution to this issue, so they are not addressing it. They are just not getting enough sleep.

5.     Reflection: From this I learned that my product would be very liked by many people and It showed me that other people have a similar need that I do for this product. I am honestly not too surprised that my first interviewee was a big fan as it would greatly benefit our lives.

6.     What is the exact nature of the need? My next interviewee said his need for this pill is to allow him to go out on the town more often. He is currently overloaded with work from school, so he often doesn’t have time to go out on the town.
When do they become aware of the need? He becomes aware of this need when all of his friends are going out to party and he must stay home and do homework/study.
How long have they had the need? 8 months
When did they first become aware of their need? Why? He became aware of this need beginning of summer B. He is a slow worker so when he was always doing homework, his friends were always partying.
How are they currently addressing their need? He is skipping homework to go out more. This is causing negative impacts on his grades which is increasing his need for the pill

7.     Reflection: From this I learned that my product would be very liked by many people and It showed me that other people have a similar need that I do for this product. I am honestly not too surprised that my second interviewee was a big fan as it would greatly benefit our lives.

8.     Summary: After these interviews, I am more confident then I was before that this product would be a HUGE success. However, after talking to the interviewee’s, they did express some concern that this product would most likely be impossible to make. If this product were to be made, I still do strongly believe it would be a huge success.
