1.
Awful cell service right outside my dorm
(Jennings) and it doesn’t get better until you get passed Rawlings Hall.
Why: There is
either too many people using the cell service in the area or this certain area
is not in good range if a cell tower.
2.
When I am at club swim practice in the O’dome
and people swim down the middle of the lane rather than on one side.
Why: Since it is a club team some
people are not experienced swimmers and do not know it is rude and dangerous to
swim down the middle of a lane.
3.
The line at the chipotle on University is
extremely long and slow after gator football games.
Why: Everyone is hungry after a long
football game and chipotle is one of the closest restaurants to Ben Hill Griffin
stadium, thus making it the perfect spot to hit after the game making it extremely
crowded. Also, there are not enough good restaurants walking distance from
campus.
4.
Ads pop up every 5-10 minutes on Hulu that you
have to watch to get back to your show/movie.
Why: I get Hulu for free since I
have Spotify premium and as a result, I have a cheaper version where ads play
every 10 minutes. Ads play so that Hulu can get money and therefore offer it to
me for free.
5.
There is no cross walk connecting the Broward garage
and Jennings Hall, so you have to either J-walk or walk all the way down to the
cross walk and then all the way back again.
Why: There are two other cross walks
at traffic lights so it would cause too much traffic to add another cross walk.
6.
Tourist drive so extremely slowly.
Why: They are unfamiliar with the
area and often are in rental cars, so they feel the need to be more cautious and
drive slowly.
7.
Teachers who teach/talk as a very slow pace with
a monotone voice.
Why: Teachers are unenthusiastic
about what they are teaching therefore teach in a boring way.
8.
People who parallel park but are 3+ feet from
the curb.
Why: People are bad drivers and are lazy,
so they do not feel like fixing there bad parking jobs.
9.
In my hometown there were speed cameras nearly
every 500 feet.
Why: The government wants to get more
money, and this was an easy solution as there are so many hidden cameras and people
drive very fast.
10. The
time that a bus is arriving on the rider app is incorrect one-fourth the time.
Why: The GPS tracking devices on
buses are old/do not work well or the rider app has bug problems that need to
be fixed.
11. When
Turlington Plaza is crowded, and people constantly step on the back of your
shoes.
Why: Too many people walk through this
plaza and as a result people get pushed into each other and accidentally step
on the backs of shoes.
12. Clumps
of hair in the shower in my communal bathroom.
Why: Peoples hair falls out for some
reason and they don’t feel the need to clean up after themselves.
13. People
leave laundry in the washer/dryer even though it is done already which prevents
other people from being able to do their laundry.
Why: Some people don’t set timers
for their laundry, so they do not know if it is done yet.
14. When
flights get delayed/cancelled.
Why: This can be a result of many things,
such as bad weather, turbulence, understaffed, or the plane you are getting on
was delayed and now is arriving late.
15. Teachers
that continue teaching even after class is supposed to be over.
Why: Teachers add too much content
to a lesson, speak too slow, or don’t plan well enough. Students can also have
more questions than the teacher anticipated.
16. When
people spell my name “Erin” rather than the correct way of “Aaron”.
Why: The girl way of spelling Aaron
is different, and people often do not know the difference, therefore spell it incorrect.
17. The
seats/tables are all taken at Library West, so I have to sit on the floor.
Why: Too many students, not enough libraries!!!!
C’mon UF, get your act together.
18. At
the gym when people place weights back in the wrong spot or even worse don’t even
bother putting the weights back.
Why: People are lazy and do not care
enough to put the weights back in the correct spots or wait for other people to
do it for them.
19. Drivers
who do not use their turn signal when turning/switching lanes.
Why: People are lazy and careless
while driving.
20. Long
lines to get into bars and long bathroom lines at bars in Gainesville.
Why: There are too many students and
not enough bars in Gainesville, so they get too crowded which results in long
lines. In. addition, bathrooms are not large enough.
Reflection:
When writing my 20 bugs, I found it to be
much more challenging than I anticipated. I was able to come up with about 5
pretty easily, however the next 15 took some thought. I think this Is because although
all these things do bother me, I forget about them right after it happens since
they are pretty minor things. I usually get annoyed about them when it happens,
and then soon after forgetting it even happened. As a result, I kept track of everything
that annoyed me during an entire day which greatly helped me finish this list.
Aaron (with 2 A's not 1 E),
ReplyDeleteI, too, found it pretty challenging to come up with all these things that bug me. When Professor Pryor said that coming up with the first five would be easy and the rest difficult, I thought it would be a breeze to come up with at LEAST ten. Needless to say, I was wrong. I feel like as people it is so much more comforting to think about the good things in life as oppose to those that bother us, and maybe that is why this assignment was rather difficult. Lastly, numbers 12 and 13 on your list are the very reasons that I won't live in a dorm anymore.

ReplyDeleteI love the idea you had of thinking about what happens in your daily life. I wish i had thought about that. I also like the detail you put into some of these posts. I think the way you talk about certain bugs makes them very believable and relatable to the reader. Overall great post and can't wait to read more.
